I recently discovered Matthew Remski who writes quite a bit on cult recovery.

The reason I even found out about him was doing a quick Google search for those leaving A Course in Miracles. It seems Matt was part of Endeavor Academy (an ACIM cult founded by a 12-step alcoholic that became a cult, and essentially allowed for ACIM to become copyright free).

In his article, he beautifully puts something I’ve been gnawing at for a while:

“My general takeaway from my personal, group, and now research experience, is that the Course works — if it can be said to work— by turning its student into a cult of one.”

Basically — the more I study ACIM and Christian Science in tandem, and understanding how cults work (very in line with codependency and forming unhealthy relationships), totalitarian breakdown, etc … the more I’m realizing how weird it is. It’s like an MK Ultra book for the masses — a form of self-hypnosis, and mind training and mind control and mind manipulation.
